Automated Dialogue Replacement and Wealth Creation for Nollywood Communicators in Port Harcourt

Abstract

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Nollywood, Africa’s largest film industry, communicators in the film industry face the dual challenges of maintaining creative integrity while navigating economic constraints. Thus, this paper assesses the innovative use of Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) as a strategic tool for wealth creation among voice actors and filmmakers in Nollywood. The objectives of the study were to: ascertain the awareness level of Automated Dialogue Replacement among voice actors and filmmakers in Port Harcourt; examine the extent of usage of Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) technology; identify the challenges associated with implementing ADR technology and find out the economic opportunities in the usage of ADR technology among voice actors and film makers in Port Harcourt Nollywood. The study was anchored on Diffusion of Innovation theory and Media Economics theory. The qualitative research design was adopted with in-depth interview guide as the instrument for data collection. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used in assessing the relevant literature. Findings revealed that the awareness level of ADR among voice actors and filmmakers was high. The study concluded that the usage of ADR technology in Port Harcourt's Nollywood presents several economic opportunities, particularly for voice artists, filmmakers, producers, and studio owners. However, there remains a need for increased awareness and understanding of these benefits within the industry.
