Abstract

This study investigated the influence of AIT'S "Feminine Affairs" programme in creating awareness on women's rights in Bayelsa State. The Agenda setting and Yale persuasion theories served as the theoretical foundation of the study. A mixed-methods research design was employed with the aid of a survey and an in-depth interview. From the population of 2,394,725, a sample size of 385 was drawn for the study, using the Survey monkey online sample size calculator. Meanwhile, the qualitative population was 161, while 12 participants were purposefully selected as the sample size. Questionnaire and interview guide were used as instruments for data collection. Multistage, purposive, techniques were used in the study. Descriptive analysis and explanation-building techniques were used for data analysis. It was found that at an average of 73.4% residents in Bayelsa State to a large extent are aware of the “AIT's "Feminine Affairs” programme. The qualitative finding share similarities with the quantitative finding. The results showed that at a grand mean score 3.1 (N=377) AIT's "Feminine Affairs” programme has influenced the behaviour of residents in Bayelsa State on issues of women rights. The qualitative finding show similar results. It was recommended that the AIT programme producers should sustain their effort in creating awareness on the need to keep protecting women’s rights. Residents need to keep availing themselves to several programmes that advocate for women rights such as AIT’s “Feminine Affairs” programme so as to completely eradicate the issue of women right violations.
